Information about Chourilovski Monastery is insufficient in volume and you can find very little about it in various sites.
Chourilovski Monastery St. Georgi is situated 200 km away from Sofia and 25 km away from Petrich, close to the village of Chourilovo.
From Petrich, you need to head to the village of Gega. The monastery is located close to the border between Bulgaria and Macedonia.
The monastery was created in the 14th century. Its wall paintings were drawn in 1858. Today, the monastery is named a monument of culture.
From the bell tower you can enjoy Belasitsa Mountain and the view towards the villages of Chourilovo, Baskaltsi and Volmo. It was constructed in 1857.
Take a close look at the wall paintings. These feature a bipolar model. In the upper part, you will see the heavenly world. Beneath it, the artists have depicted earth that is entirely under the control of evil.
Chourilovski Monastery’s holiday is on May 6.

Rozhen Monastery is one of the biggest in Bulgaria and ranks second in size after Rila Monastery.
The monastery is situated one km southwest of the village of Rozhen and three km away from Melnik, in the foot of Pirin Mountain.
According to old documents, the monastery was founded in 890. Like most other Bulgarian monasteries, it was destroyed and renovated several times.
The monastery complex consists of a church and residential buildings. The church is situated in the inner yard. Chapel-ossuary Rozhdestvo na St. Ioan Krustitel was constructed near the monastery. Wall paintings in the chapel date back to 1662.
Rozhen Monastery has its miracle-making icon that is preserved in St. Kozma and Damian chapel.
The monastery was named a monument of culture. Another interesting fact is that parts of the Bulgarian movie Vreme Razdelno were filmed there.
No accommodation is offered in the complex. Yet, the proximity to Melnik turns the monastery in a popular tourism site.
